Terri and Anna need reform to keep them working in aged care

Release date: 20/02/2012

Aged care workers are low paid - this impacts attracting and retaining staff. Terri is an aged care nurse in Sydney. Anna is a Diversional Therapist in Adelaide. Together they have spent almost 40 years working in Australia’s aged care sector.

Staff shortages mean Terri doesn’t have much time to sit with residents when they need comfort or support.

And Anna’s workload means she can’t help new residents adjust to their new environment as much as she’d like.

Both fear the future will not be able to cater for our ageing population unless urgent reform starts in 2012.

By 2050 it is estimated we’ll need 500,000 more aged care workers. Better pay and conditions are needed to address staff turnover and shortages.

How old will you be in 2050?

This campaign is for all our futures - all Australians deserve to age well - with choice, quality and dignity.

We need your help to spread the word. Can you share Terri and Anna's story with your family, friends and workmates?

We all want to age well.
