ANF Vic branch members held a protest outside the front of the Productivity Commission on the first day of the public hearings in Australia. Federal Secretary Lee Thomas and aged care nurses handed Productivity Commissioner Mike Woods the Because We Care petition.
The Because We Care campaign collected 26,000 signatures from Australia which read:
Because We Care, it's time to fix aged care.
Because I care, I urge the Productivity Commission to recognise the crisis in staffing levels/skills mix and wages and in aged care, and recommend to the Federal Government that now is the time to fix aged care.
The Productivity Commission was asked by the government to review aged care in Australia. The Caring for Older Australians Inquiry has heard evidence from over 30 nurses and carers, including ANF Federal Secretary Lee Thomas and branch secretaries and members. You can read the submissions and transcripts of evidence at: Productivity Commission Home.
The ANF written submissions to the Productivity Commission Inquiry are useful background reading.
